Matthew Deapo is a Philadelphia-based arts critic and the founding writer for Kinetoscope Film Journal. His work has been published in Wayne State Press' Heaven Was Detroit: From Jazz to Hip Hop & Beyond and featured at Hip Hop Golden Age.

Deapo received an MA in English Literature from St. Bonaventure University in 2005, having constructed a thesis that drew parallels between the existential writings of Jean-Paul Sartre and Albert Camus and the bleak cinematic visions of Pier Paolo Pasolini and Martin Scorsese.

He originally hails from Syracuse, NY, and he and his wife just welcomed their first child, Archer Matthew.
